Muscat Classic Half day Tour (4h)
Timing:
It is best to start early in the day.
Days:
Saturday to Thursday (Not operating on Friday)
The tour starts from Muscat at 8:30 am heading towards the first stop of the magnificent Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque which is considered as one of the largest and most charming mosques in Oman. It was built in 2001 as a gift from the former Sultan Qaboos to the nation. This glorious Mosque is an impressive piece of Islamic architecture. You will walk inside the mosque premises with our guide by going through five minarets and ending in the breathtaking main prayer hall where you will gain lots of knowledge about Oman and the Islamic culture in general.
Then, you will visit Souq Muttrah, Muttrah Market, which is one of the oldest markets in Oman which is about 220 years old. Inside the market, you meet lots of traders selling souvenirs, traditional textiles, incense, frankincense, jewelry of silver and gold, etc.
Then, the tour will allow you a photo stop at Al Alam Palace, one of Muscat’s old historical parts. It has a history that goes back to over 200 years; it was built by Al-Said Sultan bin Ahmed Al Busaidi, and then it was renovated by the formal Sultan Qaboos bin Said AL Said in 1972 to be as an official place where distinguished visitors and guests can be received. This is a tourist destination which allows tourists to stop near the gates and take photographs to witness its unique architecture of golden and blue pillars. Al Alam Palace is surrounded by the 16th century forts, Al Jalali and Al Mirani.
Then, the tour provides you with two options. The first option is to pay a visit to Bait Al Baranda Museum housed in a renovated-1930s residence known as the House of Naseeb, who was a prominent merchant back in the day and his name was Naseeb bin Mohammed. “Al Baranda” is the local pronunciation of the English word “Veranda” which means “balcony”, which is an extension in the length of a floor. This museum traces the history of Muscat through imaginative and interactive displays and exhibits. The second option is to pay a visit to Bait Al Zubair Museum, the heritage and cultural center. It was founded by Al Zubair family in 1999, where its family’s collection of Omani artefacts in the country are showcased to be as a real window on Oman’s rich heritage and culture. Finally, the tour ends by a drive back to the hotel.
